Course 3 - Reading & Writing in Thai

Description

This course integrates all the skills namely listening, speaking, reading and writing. Its main aim is, however, to develop learners' ability to read and comprehend a variety of reading materials as well as to develop learner's appreciation towards Thai cultures. Selected reading material from various sources, i.e. newspapers, magazines, folktales, proverbs, sayings and lyrics of some selected songs will form a major part of the reading activities. Public signs, traveling cum business pamphlets and brochures will also be incorporated in the reading activities.

At this level the emphasis is on reading whereas writing is rudimentary and serves merely as a means to enable learners to grasp the intricacies of the Thai writing system. Writing activities are a follow-on and introduced as a means to help consolidate learners' reading ability and thus are confined to simple forms of writing i.e. letters, short paragraphs or essays.
